Ravier Sousa
I’m Ravier, a product designer at Microsoft, where I design AI agent experiences for Engage.I was born and raised in the
periferia
of Brasília, Brazil’s working-class outskirts. A Black kid from the periferia designing for big tech is outside the statistics, and getting here took a lot of hard work. Before design, there were computers. I grew up on video games, more curious about how they worked than about winning them. I formatted my own PC, flashed custom ROMs on Android phones, and wanted to understand what sat behind every screen. My first job in tech was as a support analyst at Brazil’s Ministry of Communications, on Internet Para Todos, a federal program bringing internet to remote regions. I talked to Indigenous villages in the North and to town halls in cities of 5,000 people, where the computers we supported were often the only ones around. That’s where I learned that empathy isn’t a method. It’s proximity.I studied Systems Analysis and Development and gravitated to the front end, starting with the University of Brasília’s web portal. Then I joined Instabuy, a grocery marketplace, as its first product designer, working side by side with the CEO and CTO, and helped grow our customer base by 400%. At Guidance, a software house that has generated more than R$500 million in results for its clients, I designed for brands like MIT Sloan Management Review Brasil and HSM Management. At Gamers Club, Latin America’s largest esports platform, I created Desafio RP. It grew monthly revenue 10× and is still the store’s top product seven years later, and while I was there we hit our all-time peak of 80,000 subscribers. At Stone, one of Brazil’s biggest fintechs, I owned the dashboard for Pagar.me, a complex payments platform serving more than 5 million clients, and cut its most frequent support cases by 65%.Then I moved to Toronto and joined Microsoft to work on Engage, one of the largest enterprise community platforms, with more than 60 million active users. I designed Community Experts, a role now held by more than 600,000 people that gives trusted members real authority inside their communities and drove engagement across the platform. Today I lead design for Community Agent. It isn’t a chatbot waiting for a prompt: it lives inside the community, answering alongside people, with humans in control. That’s the hard part, and my favorite one.I’m an AI enthusiast, and it runs through my entire workflow. I design with the Figma MCP, build with Claude Code, Codex and GitHub Copilot CLI, and I’m one of the designers at Microsoft shipping pull requests every day. My systems background lets me move comfortably through code, reviews and engineering conversations, so less gets lost between the design and what ships. Speed is never the point, though. Craft is. And the part I care about most hasn’t changed since that support desk: the human on the other side.Work Experience
